REI Denali Quick Dry Pants

When REI had their massive online “ $0.83 sale ” in the Fall, I grabbed a pair at the online REI Outlet store for $1.83. Yep, that’s right, just $1.83! Since they were originally priced at $48, I couldn’t pass up the deal, and how could the Hiking Lady have too many pairs of quick dry hiking pants?

I gave them a try on a recent hike to the Torrey Pines Reserve in La Jolla, CA, and I definitely got a lot more than I was expecting for $1.83! I might even have paid $48 for these…

What I like about REI Denali Women’s Quick Dry Pants:

  • UPF 30 rating. As avid readers of this site know, I am very keen on gear that is UPF rated. I spend a lot of time outdoors and want to protect my skin from harmful UV rays .
  • Quick Dry Fabric. Yep, they live up to their name. The fabric dries very quickly when wet.
  • Multiple Pockets. In addition to carrying my essential gear in my daypack or backpack, I like to keep things like chapstick, sunblock, and point and shoot camera handy. There are lots of pockets, including zippered back pockets and a zippered side pocket.
  • Convertible into Capri Pants. Definitely nice on hot days or if you want to dip your feet into a stream
  • Comfort. These are one of the most comfortable pair of hiking pants I’ve worn, likely because of the elastic waistband and baggy fit in the leg. However, the pant legs were a little too roomy for my taste.
  • The drawbacks:
    Overall the pants fit well, and are highly technical – UPF rated, quick dry fabric, and multiple pockets. However, I’d say they are lack a bit on style. No, I am not vain, but if I am on a local short hike I don’t want to be fully geared out in elastic waistband, baggy hiking pants. For backpacking trips or long day hikes when you’re not eating out at a restaurant afterwards, these are a great choice.
